At about 70 days of age, the piglets are moved in litters to our stables, built in 2008. These stables are the only ones of their kind in Sweden. We have healthy pigs that are allowed to grow up in a room where there are two boxes, in each box there are 16-18 pigs. They eat when they are hungry themselves, by cooking food out of a feeder. They also eat roughage in the form of hay silage every day. The hay contains a variety of herbs, such as cat's foot, chamomile, dogwood, black fighter and more. Pigs are omnivorous animals, they want to eat a little of a lot.
We feed our pigs different grains such as barley, oats and wheat plus peas, broad beans and rapeseed meal. Rapeseed contains omega-3, which gives the feed a better fatty acid composition. Each pen has a porch, so the pigs have the opportunity to go outside whenever they want. The pigs live here until they weigh about 120 kg. Please watch a film about Nibble's pig business >> We load our pigs onto the slaughter truck early in the morning two days a week. When the truck has driven for about 1 hour, the pigs have laid down and are sleeping most of the journey to the slaughterhouse in Skövde.
We know this because we filmed inside the car, all so that we could feel sure that they have a good trip. Our pigs are slaughtered at Skövde Slaughterhouse. We have chosen the Skövdeslakteriet because they have built with the best imaginable interior to reduce the stress during slaughter.
Two important prerequisites for good breeding are firstly a good interaction between pigs and caretakers, and secondly premises that are adapted to the pig's needs but are also a good working environment.
